The following important items, omitted as usual, in the telegram which reached us on Friday week from Hokitika, appear in the Melbourne papers. It will be seen that Luxemburg has been ceded to the French, and not to the Prussians, as stated in the telegram first received. London, March 27. Mr. Disraeli has conceded the lauded franchise, and abandoned dual voting. England declines to advise on the cession of Candia. March 30. The magistrates have dismissed the charge against Mr. Eyre. The Times says that Holland cedes Luxemburg to Fiance for 100,000,000 francs. Prussia is strongly reinforcing in consequence. April 10. The French Exhibition is opened. Mr. Disraeli's budget shows a surplus for the past year of £2,500,000. The estimated revenue for the year is £69,340,000, the expenditure is £68,000,000. The estimated surplus £1,206,000. The London Chartered Bank has declared a dividend of nine per cent. The English Mediterranean squadron is ordered to Candia. The Luxemburg question threatened to cause a panic on the London Stock Exchange and the Paris Bourse. Through apprehensions of war, a great fall took place in the Funds on the 9th April. Turkey is sending reinforcements to the Greek frontiers, where a disturbance is expected. Owing to the defection of forty-eight Liberal members, the Reform Bill is substantially withdrawn. Mr. Disraeli has consented that a committee should be empowered to amend the Law of Rating Bill. It has been committed. M. de Moustier has declared in the Corps Legislatif that France will examine the Luxemburg question in concert with the neutral powers. April 11. The Chief Justice, in charging the grand jury in Colonel kelson's and Lieutenant Brand's cases, declared that the Sovereign has no prerogative to proclaim martial law. The American senate has ratified the purchase of Russian America for 7,000,000 dollars. The German Parliment has voted the constitution. April 12. Mr. Gladstone moved an amendment on the Reform Bill, abolishing the clause relating to personal rating. April 18. Tbe neutral powers are endeavouring to arrange the Luxemburg question. France is making warlike preparations.
