It is well known that the Queeu devotes much of her leisure to the cultivation of the fine arts, and it has more than once been rumoured that her Majesty has directed her talents also to the pursuit of literature. The preface to the collected speeches of the late Prince Consort, if not actually written by Her Majesty, -was at least "inspired" by her, and her reputatatiou for literary skill has on several occasions given ground to reports that her Majesty has intended that her name should be included in the roll of "royal authors." A rumour of this kind is agaiu current, and we understand that it is very generally believed that Her Majesty is actually preparing a book of her own composition for the press, and is, moreover, engraving the plates by which it is to be illustrated. — Edinburgh Coura.nl. Superlatives are dangerous things. A man once wrote to his wife, "My dearest Maria ;" audby return post he received the old reply," Permit me to correct either your grammar or your morality. Pray, who are your other dear Marias?"
