The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, MAY 16, 1867.

/We hope that the letter we printed /yesterday, ou the subject of the Moutere \as a gold-field, is but a prelude to other ; communications on the same subject, from persons who have positive information to afford iv a matter which is of great consequence to the inhabitants of the Blind Bay district. It is quite superfluous to point out that were a gold-field of any ex" tent and of payable richness discovered so near the city asisalledged, its being brought into activity would impart a StroDg stimulus to every description of business. The country would be equally benefited with tbe town, and the farmers of the Waimeas, whose ability to maintaiu their posi tiou appears to be declining year by year, would obtain in an , excelieut and near market tbe meaus of retrieving their lost ground, and of dealing more generously with their impoverished soil. It is equally obvious tbat if a considerable trade springs up in the Moutere and Motueka districts, the commencement of the construction of a railway which may ultimately go much further, will be greatly facilitated. We trust that the iuhabitauts of Nelson — the New Zealand Capua — wiil throw i off some of their proverbial lethargy, and "•.will bestir themselves to ascertain the existence or uon-existeuce of paynble gold in the locality referred to.
