PLEURO-PNEUMONIA MEETING, AT RICHMOND.
All adjourned meeting, having for its object the consideration of the Report of the Commissioners appointed by his Honor the Superintendent to enquire into the condition of a herd of cattle lately lauded from Queensland, and at present running at Stoke, in a paddock in the occupation of Captain Johnson, was held at the Agricultural ■ Hall, Richmond, on Saturday evening, Mr. W. Mcßae iv the chair. The mnetiug was veiy numerously attended, and much interest in the subject was evinced by all present. Three resolutions were proposed and carried unanimously, thanking the Superintendent for the prompt manner in which he had taken up the matter, and approving of the recommendations conveyed in the Report of the Commissioners, but at the same time expressing dissatisfaction that the Commissioners had not persoually inspected the herd from which the diseased cattle which had been destroyed were taken. These resolutions have, we understand, been forwarded this day to his Honor the Superintendent, with a request that he would give instructions to the Commissioners personally to inspect the cattle imported from Queensland, wliereever they may be found. We may add
that, considerable excitement was created
at the meeting by the reading of a letter frem a gentleman in town, which stated that the cattle in the colony of Queensland were very generally diseased. This, if true, is obviously a very important poiut in the consideration of this question, nnd, we may add, very much opposed to the generally received impression on this subject.
The following are the resolutions alluded to above : — ■
1. That this meeting desires to thank the Superintendent for the prompt action taken by his Honor in giving effect to the public wish, as regards the appointment of a Commission to enquire into the condition of the herd of cattle lately imported from Queensland — and is of opinion that an equally prompt attention to the recommendations of the Commissioners wiil satisfy the reasonable expectations of the rural population.
2. That from information just received by tbis meeting, it is desirable that the said Commissioners should receive immediate instructions from the Superintendent to visit all the different portious of the herd of cattle supposed to be infected, wherever they may be scattered.
3. That the Reports of the Commissioners and of the Inspectors of Diseased Cattle should be published by the Government, as soon as received, for general in-
formation
