VOLUNTEER ARTILLERY CORPS.
A meetiug was held at the Bank Hotel yesterday evening, to consider the desirability of forming a Volunteer Artillery Corps in this City. In spite of other engagements in other parts of the town, the meeting Avas both numerously and respectably attended. Mr. W. C. Hodgson, having been called to the chair, briefly explained the object of the meeting. It Avas moved by Mr. J. Wilkie, and seconded by Mr. Younger, that it was desirable that a Volunteer Artillery Corps should be formed in the City of Nelson. Captain and Adjutant Lockett explained that he had learned, from information received from the Hon. Major Richardson, whilst in attendance on his Excellency the Governor, during the late Viceregal visit, that the General Government Avere favorably disposed towards the formation of Volunteer Artillery Corps throughout the colony, and Avould offer every facility to promote them. Mr. Lane having proposed that the persons present should enroll their names as members of the Nelson Volunteer Artillerv Corps, 21 individuals at once enrolled their names, and the meeting then separated.
