The paddle steamer Bruce left Hokitika on Saturday at noon, and arrived off Woodpecker Bay at 7 p.m., stood in but found the surf too heavy to remain there, went out and anchored for the night. Next morning landed passengers and and at 8 left for the Buller,* where she arrived about I p.m. ; left again yesterday morn- ... at 11-30, encountered strong head winds with •■:. k weather, until 12 o'clock last night, when •md died away.
