The latest dates from Europe are to the 9tb February. . A new telegraphic compauy had been formed in London, haviug for its object the laying of a substantial cable, by way of the Azores, to Halifax, Nova Scotia. The trial of ex-Governor Eyre has commenced. The number of bodies recovered from the lake in Regent's Park, amounted to 40 in all. It is suggested that it be filled in and the bottom covered with concrete, similar to that in St. James' Park. A number of Reform League meetings have been held in various parts of the country. The great metropolitan gathering was to take place on February 11th. No attempt will be made to hold it in the parks, as was thought. Cholera has appeared in very malignant form in the north of England. The weather has been very severe, snow and frost having hemmed the popu-* lation in in all quarters. The traffic on the South Eastern Railway has, at all places, been entirely suspended. The traffic throughout France was suspended for two days about the 18th January, by severe weather and heavy suow storms. Doctor Milman, Vicar of Great Marlow, has accepted the Bishopric of Calcutta. It is rumored that Mr. Gladstone will shortly become Prime Minister. The Viceroy of Egypt is to be invested with the Order of the Bath. Labor riots have occurred in Belgium. The Greek Government announced that the crisis of war is at hand. The Serviaos are flying to arms against the Ottoman rule. Imprisonment for debt in France is abolished. The Italian National Parliament, has abolished capital punishmeut. W. Snow Harris, a well-known writer on electricity, is dead.
