THE GOVERNOR'S DINNER.
— — — — To the Editok of the { Evening Mall'. Sir — I find, on enquiry, that the rumor to which I referred in my letter of yesterday, is perfectly true j and I understand that the exalted individuals to whom the management of the banquet has been confided, are now busying themselves in arranging a graduated scale by which the drinkables may be supplied in strict accordance with the rule which has been laid down with reference to the eatables. For instance, it is proposed that Champagne and Moselle (No. 2) shall figure on the high table, relieved, of course, with other wines of a somewhat less expensive character ; whilst Marsala, Bucellas, and the lighter and less costly products of the Australian vineyards, assisted by a copious supply of Hooper and Dodson's best, will be considered quite good enough for the unfortunate nobodies " below the salt," as the old phrase had it in feudal times. I wonder how many tickets will be sold for this precious bauquet ; or, rather, how many of our citizens will bow their necks under this tyranny of suobdom ! I am, &c, Anti-Gluttony.
