THE GOVERNOR'S DINNER.

To the Editor of the ' Evening Mail.' Sir — I had fully intended, as a loyal subject of our liege lady the Queen, to offer my tribute of respect to her representative, the Governor of this colony, on his approaching visit to this city, and had made up my mind to expend fifteen shillings on the purchase of a ticket for the dinner which is to be given to his Excellency at the Provincial Hall. But a rumor of a very unpleasant kind is afloat this morning in circles likely to be well informed on the subject. It is confidently stated that the Committee^ of Management have determined on having a hot dinner for the dais or upper table (for the especial delectation, I suppose, of Mr. Poy uter and his fellow-gourmands of the Committtee). whilst the vulgar crowd — the ignobile magus — will have to content themselves with cold viands, though they will be expected to pay exactly the same price for their tickets as their more favored brethren at the high table ! Surely*" what is sauce for the goose, should be sauce for the gander," and I am very much mistaken if the people of Nelson will tolerate the perpetration of such a piece of arrant snobbery as this. I, for one, shall certainly absent myself from ■flic dinner if this intention be carried into effect. I an>, sir, your's Anti-Gluttony. Nelson, Monday morning.
