CONFLAGRATION AT CHRISTCHURCH.
ESTIMATED DAMAGE; £10,000. * WRECK OP THE STEAMER QUEEN. [by electric telegraph.] .. Christchurch, April 6. A fire broke out this morning in the block of buildings at the rear of Cookham House. It originated at the Bishop's stables, then spread to Bruce and Co.'s premises, when those belonging to Jameson caught fire, and were entirely destroyed. The shops in Colombo-street were in considerable danger, and would have been burned down had any wind arisen. The fire raged fiercely for two hours. The damage is estimated at £10,000. Wellington, April 6, 25 p.m. The Airedale has arrived, bringing the captain and crew of the steamer Queen, which left Wellington for Nelson yesterday evening, and was lost by striking on Cook's Rock last night at 11 o'clock. The passengers and crew were saved.
