The Argus of the 28th ult. says:— The Grey, bar, which has .for so many months maintained a passable condition, is, we are sorry to state, now almost unworkable. The small quantity of rain that has fallen lately has reduced the current and volume of the river to a minimum point, and the prevalence of easterly winds has caused the channel to silt up considerably. The Dispatch yesterday found only 6 feet of water in mid channel, and until a material alteration takes place, the various steamers in port will be compelled to remain in the river. . ... •,- The Auckland Herald says : — A correspondent writing to it from Wangarei, informs it that some of the Waipu settlers, when fishing about three miles off Bream Tail* discovered a sunken rock. The rock has' from 12 to 15 feet of water on it at low tide, while the soundings all around gave 35 fathoms. From Bream Tail this rock bears E.S.E. !
