Golden Cloud set off at a slashing pace, leaving Trust behind him, who, however, soon came up to his heels, and at the straight running a magnificent neck and neck race ensued, causing the highest excitement amongst the spectators, which terminated in the victory of Golden Cloud, by about half a head, the winner having been severely punished. Second Day. The weather was by no means so hot as yesterday ; it was consequently much more conducive to enjoyment. The Wanganui steamer brought a few passengers from Wangauui ; but the expected excursionists did not arrive from Wellington, in consequence of finding they would be unable to spend two days here. The Taranaki did not make her appearance, it being found necessary, probably, to detain her for repairs. A good number of people met on the race course, to-day, and appeared to enjoy themselves to their heart's content. The Maiden Plate of 100 soys ; entrance, 10 soys each, h ft. The fact that Mr. Redwood had backed his horse in his usual plucky manner to win, had inspired great confidence in tliepublic mind. After a good start, Blackboy passed the post the first time pulling double, aud on passiug it the second time looked like winning all over, until towards the distance, "when he evidently overpowered his rider, and Magenta then rapidly overhauled, him, and from the distance post came to the front, winning as hy liked, heads down. SwEErsTAKES of 25 soys each, h ft. One mile and a half. Omen, rf, Mr. Stafford's (Bright) 1 XXX, bk f, Mr. Morse's..-.. ..(M'Glashen) 2 This was simply a trial of strength betweeu the roan filly and an untried one. Omen took the lead and kept it throughout, although the black filly acquitted herself on her debut very creditably, and probably for sometime gave her more experienced opponent some uneasiness. Time, 2 mm. 57 sees. The Hack Rack of 5 soys; entrance, 5s each. The winner of the Waimea Stakes of the preceding day not allowed to start. Once round.

.. Nine horses started for this race which excited great amusement. It was won :> by Mr. Bradley's Sprightly (P. Martin.) The Licensed Victuallers' Free Handicap of 50 soys. Acceptors, 4 soys ench. Mr.Ked wood's^ owell) 3 To the disappointment of the public, although 17 horses were entered for this race, only throe started, the Cloud being the favorite, Corsair having gone wrong shortly before the start, hut appearing on the course ia such fine form as to restore the confidence of his backers. At the start, the Cloud went n-lieaci, and evidently meant to win ; but at the corner he unfortunately shied, and weur. into the gorse hedge, allowing his two competitors to pass him, Corsair taking the lead, closely pressed by the' green and white, which has shown to such great advantage during the present meet, coming in the "winner by about two lengths. Time, 3 rnius. 35 sees. We are unable to gire the result of the Consolation Plate and Forced Handicap. It shall appear to-morrow.
