A CRITIC AT FAULT. To the Editor of tub .Evening* Mail.'
Sm— Our friend "Paul Pry" after a long sleep, has awakened to a consciousness of the fact, that a part of Nelsou is characterised by dirt on the part of its inhabitants. If any oue will take the trouble to inspect the neighborhood this peevish person has maligned, he will admit that it will bear favorable comparison with auy other part of the town. I think the prying writer' must have mistakeu his vocation aud derived his information from certain well kuown ill-natured individuals who have a " down" ou the neighborhood in question. There is reason to believe that spite and envy and not a regard for the public welfare, are the basis of the complaiuts which ' l Paul Pry" has made of one of the cleanest localities in Nelson. Yours, &c, An Old Inhabitant.
Mr. T. A. S. Kynnersley has beeu gazetted as Returning Officer for the electoral districts ofthe Buller and Grey, forjthe election of member-, of the Provincial Council.
The Duuedin Evening Star gives us the following news about home : — The reception which the Nelson cricketers received ou their return from Wellington was anythiDg but favorable or flattering. On landing at the Nelson wharf, they were received with groans and hisses, v accompanied by a species of verbal criticism higlily uncomplimentary.
