We remind our readers of the public meeting to be held in the Provincial Hall, this evening, at half-past 7 o'clock, for the purpose of considering what steps shall be taken to welcome his Excellency the Governor, who is expected to arrive at Nelson on the 26th instant.

We are glad to notice that the tariff returns of the Greymouth and Saltwater Tramway show a steady increase. The return for the week ending the Bth inst. states the receipts of the Company to have been £68 2s, of which amount £66 17s was derived from passengers. The number of tickets issued was 558, of which 447 were for single tickets.

We are indebted to the officers of the Taranaki, for copies of the Southland News, 9th and 12th ; Lytteltcn Times, sth ; Hokitika Evening Star, 12th and 13th ; and Dunedin Evening Star, Bth 9th insts.

The Dunedin Evening Star of the 9th says : — His Excellency the Governor will embark in the Brisk, on Friday morning next. On the previous evening, he will attend a lecture to be given by his. Honor Mr. Justice Richmond, at Knox Church, in aid of the Young Men's Christian Association, which it is arranged shall conclude early enough to enable his Excellency to be present at the Philharmonic Society's Concert.
