Asphalte pavements are corning much In.vogue in Auckland.
Mr. Ogilvie, the representative of Messrs. Brassey aud Co., has arrived in Auckland, and inspected the proposed line of railway from Auckland to Drury, with branch to Onehunga.

A Wanganui paper states tbat a medical board has examined the wound of Capiain McDonnell, and reported that it will be at least 12 months before he will be fit for duty.
The Daily Southern Cross says, a rather singular occurrence happened on Monday, February 10. Two large streams of water burst from the side of the Kakepuka facing Alexandra, about three-quar-ters of the distance from the foot of the hill, and flowed at a rapid rate for several hours. The course of the nvo streams can be plainly seen frorn Alexandra, and appears to be of a considerable width.
The King Maoris are said to have established an aukati at Otea — not allowing any King Maoris to pass the line. All goods brought to them from Raglan are to be destroyed ; and they are to return to the old Maori costume. Raglan is very quiet, all the natives being away. The yield of the Grey and its adjoining gold-fields (says the Argus) fully maintains the high reputation of the district. On Thursday 11,839 ozs of gold were shipped from .this port— 72ol of which were exported to Sydney, and 4638 ozs to Melbourne.
The Greymouth races will be run March 18th, l&th, and 20th. All entries and: nominations must be made on Friday evening, March 15th, by 9 o'clock, at JP^Wfr Union Hotel, Greymouth.
