ALBION. v. WAKEFIELD.

To the Editor of the * Eveking Mail'.

Sie, — I ami . by no ' means desirous of disputing the justice of the criticisms which have appeared in the public prints, •with reference to the shortcomings of the .^Nelson players". iff /the match which came off oq Thursday ; last at Victory-square. Still, I think it isonly just to those who were actually engaged in it, to remind your readers that several of the best players in the Albion Club declined to play on that occasion, on the ground that they could not afford time to do so. Yet I was not a little surprised to discover that several of the gentlemen to whom I allude could find time to present themselves on the Square in carriages and on foot, where they amused themselves by ridiculing and criticising, in no very friendly spirit, the play of those who were, in fact, occupying the position which properly should have devolved upon themselves. " Honor to whom honor is due," and blame too, for the matter of that ; so 1 think that the public should know that the disgrace which the Albion Club sustained on Thursday was attributable, not only to the inefficiency of some of the players, and to the want of practice on the part of all of them, but, in an especial degree, to the apathy and want of energy of those who are — or who, at all events, assume themselves to be — the best players amongst its members. I am, &c, Stumps. Nelson, Bth March.
