We lenru that the return march between the Albion, and Wukefield .Cricket Clubs, ■will come off on Thursday next on Victory square; wickets to be pitched at 10 o'clock. We are also informed that the pupils of Nelson College have, pluckily enough, forwarded a challenge to the members of the Richmond Club, which, as yet, h.is not been accepted. It affords us much pleasure to observe that li Young Nelson" exhibits every disposition to cultivate this manly anrl essentially English game.
The Richmond Cattle Fair will take place to-morrow. It is to be hoped that it will be belter attended thsm it has been of late. - It is said that stock is now in demand, and the gathering at Richmond should be of advantage to the buyers and sellers of the district.
We regret to learn that a fire occurred at the Wakefielcl Arms, last night, which destroyed the stablps, ami was uofc got under without considerable- effort on the part of the inmates of the hotel. We are informed from a privafe source, that Mr. Wiii taker, the Superintendent of Auckland, had sent in his resignation of that office on Saturday last. It has for some time past been a matter of notoriety that Mr. Whitaker has been offered the permanent post of Attorney-General of the Colony, and it is probable that hh resignation of the Superintendentship is only the preliminary step to bis acceptance of the other office. .
