February 15, 1867. ] 'resent, Messrs. Carter, Burn, Burns, Bentley, Rout, and Wright ; Mr. ].. Burn in the chair. The minutes of the hist meeting were read and confirmed. Tenders were opened for forming and gravelling Cambria-street East : — Edward Dunlop, £61 10s.;. James Jennings, £87 10s. That of E. Dunlop was accepted. Tenders were handed in for making a hriek culvert and forming a road round it, in Franklynstreet : — W. Osman, £20; James Marcombe, £67 2s. 6d. The tender of W. Osman was accepted. A discussion arose relative to the Provincial Government handing over the management of the Kiver Maitai to the. Board. The matter was postponed. It was resolved that the public works committee visit Brook-street and Nile-street East, for the purpose of concurring with the surveyor relative to the work required to be done before advertising for tenders. The secretary reported that Mr. Hale had cut a water course down his acre, instead of taking it properly into the ditch, thereby causing the water to run across Kawai-street, thereby inj uring that street. The secretary was directed to write to Mr. 1-iale on the subject. The secretary reported that he had put the whole, of the 9th year's arrears into the hands of Mr. H. Adams, solicitor to the Board, It was resolved that the whole of the arrears of the 7th and Bth years he placed in the hands of the solicitor to the Board. xV letter was read from the Provincial Secretary, wishing to have tne amount of rates received by the Board, from January Ist to December 31st, 1866, for transmission to the General Government. Tbe secretary was instructed to furnish the required information. An application from Mr. Austin to the Board, to repair a portion of Ngatiawa-street, was granted. Mr. Porthouse obtained leave to erect two posts in front of his premises in Bridge-street, on which to hang a lamp. . ' The secretary furnished the Board with *the
cost of Grove-street West, which amounted to £$:i 12s. up to the present date. An application was received from several ratepayers in Bridire-street, who wished to be specially rated, for the purpose of making a brick sewer down the centre of Bridge-street. It was discussed and postponed till the next meeting. The secretary was instructed to prepare a rough estimate of a sewer to be made on the Waimea-road. The following accounts were passed : — Labor, £48 Os. 3d. ; per ctntage for collecting arrears. £2 17s. Marcu 1, .1867. Present: Messrs. Bentley, Burns, Wright, Rout, and Carter ; Mr. Burn in the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Tenders were opened for work iu Brook-street-east and Nile-street — Coekram and Dunlop, £150; Potter, £194 45.: the tender of the former was accepted. Tenders for Van Diemen-street were, Lock and Adams, £69 155.; Coekram and Dunlop, £100 95.: the former was accepted. Tender for Brougham-street, Dunlop and Coekram, £85 45., accepted. Tenders, Kawai-street — Maxted, £28 ; Jamieson, £38 10s.; 0. Ambler, £55 : the tender of Maxted was accepted, on condition of his security being satisfactory. Tenders for repairing culverts in Hampden-street — A. Adams, £10 16s; J. B. Walton, £9 Bs.: the latter was accepted. A discussion relative to the Maitai river took place, and the Surveyor was ordered to remove the snags at Collingwood Bridge. The Surveyor was instructed, to prepare plans aud specification, and advertise for tenders for a continuation of main sewer from Trafalgar-street to Collingwood-street. A letter was read from Mr. A. Piichmond complaining of the breast work having given way from the force of the tide, at the bottom of Mary Ann-street. The surveyor was instructed to get the work done at once. Mr. H. Hounsell having applied for a lamp to be erected at corner ot Nile and Alton-streets; and Mr. G. W. Lightband and others having made a similar request for Milton Grove-bridge, the Board resolved that such applications could not be granted for the present. A letter was received from Mr. P. Birrell, claiming compensation from the Board, for injuries alleged to be sustained on the 7th November last, at Nile-street-east, while driving an omnibus over a part of the road which had been cut down two feet, and at which place no lamp was placed to give warning of such cutting. He claimed compensation £50, for injuries received, loss of time, and medical attendance. The Board decided that they could not entertain the application. An applicaiion from Firth and Co., in Colling-wood-street, for gravel to be placed in front of their premises, was ordered to be attended to by the surveyor. Mr. li. Levien having complained that he was too highly assessed, aud a sub-committee having, after examination, reduced the amount, Mr. Levien further complained of the amount. The Board refused to take any further action. Accounts were passed as follows :—Hardystreet debentures to Mr. Jennings, the last, £44 Us. -, Mr. Poy nter, last of Trafalgar-street debentures, £223 13s. 4d. ; labor, £4S Os. 3d.; Evening Mail, £9 Gs. Sd ; Examiner, 165.; H. Hounsell, £1 6s. 4d. ; John Scott, £19 9s. 7d.; Frost, £11 195.; Hammond, £i 12s. ; Barton, £9. Os. Od. The Board adjourned till the 15th inst,
