WHO IS THE ARCHDEACON OF THE WAIMEAS?

To THE EDITOK OF THE ' EVENING MAIL.' Dear Me. Editor.—My friend, Mrs. Harris, has been thrown into a sad state of perplexity by a mysterious letter inserted in the Examiner a few days ago, and referring to the present position of the English colonial bishops, which purported to come from one " A. C. London" (who, I am told, is no less a personage than the Bishop of London), and which was addressed to " the Archdeacon of tho Waimeas." We have made repeated enquiries amongst mutual friends, with a view to discover the identity of this august personage, and Ave have been informed in several quarters that the title has been conferred by the Archbishop of Canterbury upon an honorable a"d gallant Major, residing in the Waimea District, in recognuiouofthe services which he has conferred upon the Church militfmt. by his recent learned and grammatical letter in the Colonist on the payment of Dr. Colenso's salary. If Ave are rightly informed I am sure you will let us knoAv at once, as Mrs. Harris's ideas on the subject are getting very confused, and she will persist in connecting "the Archdeacon of the Waimeas"' with the "Autocrat of all the Russias." Believe me, dear Mr. Editor, Your obliged friend, Saieey Gamp. Nelson, February 27.
