In opposition to the numerous express sions of opinion which have been published respecting the chauge of Governor on the expiration of Sir George Grey's term of ofiice, we may place the following, for which the Grey Biver Argus is responsible : — There appears to be every probability that Sir George Grey will be continued as Governor of New Zealand. His present term of ofiice is on the eve of expiring, but beyond two or three speculative rumors in the Home papers no mention has been made of any successor. It may have been remarked too that on the occasions on which his Excellency has spoken in public during his tour he has spoken as though he expected to hold His ofiice for some years to come. His chances of re-appointment are strengthened by the circumstance of a Conservative Ministry being in power at Home. The Lyttelton Times notices an improvement in the facilities of travelling from Christchurch to the Port: — During the last few days, one or two enterprising individuals have provided a number of horses for conveying passengers over the hill to meet the railway trains for Christchurch, at reasonable fares. A time-table has heen issued, stating the times of starting from Lyttelton, and what trains are met on the return journey from Christchurch. Side-saddles are provided for the use of ladies.
