THE WAY THE MONEY GOES.

To THE EDITOK OF THE ' EvEXIKG IL\IL.' Sir, — The Superintendent' in his address to the meeting oil the evening of the 30th January, states that the Superintendent Holds too much power, as regards the control of the finances of the province. I hold that if a person placed in trust, misappropriates funds, he is more to be blamed than a man who attacks you on the highway, in the latter case you have a chance to defend your property, in the former you must just put up with what is done. It is well known, that a great many of the Estimates, are paid before they come before the Council, or else the work is so far advanced, that it is bound to be fulfilled. Now how can the Superintendent with any sense of right, appropriate about £450 for a swimming bath, and place the same iu a private individuals hands. If there was any uecessity for a swimming bath iu Nelson, and no private person would make it, it would be quite time then for the Government to go to the expense they have in the erection of baths, and let them be let by tender, to the highest tenderer. What has Mr. Barraclough done for the province ? Nothing. How does the Superintendent calm his conscience in spending £350 for a spree for the old identities before leaving a place where they have had a goodly share of the loaves and fishes. £SOO is no joke to spend in such a foolish manner, and nothing to show for it. I am, sir, yours repectfully. A Subscriber. Nelson, February 4, 1867. ■
