THE BIBLE AND OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
To the Editor of the Evening Mail. I think the- statement of his Honor the Superintendent, and also that of the minister with reference to the above subject, which appeared in your report of the Wesleyan Sunday School anniversary, is calculated to mislead the public, especially those who do not understand the Education Ordinance. I am sony his Honor did not explain the matter more fully, as he was able to do so. That the bible is excluded from some of the public schools I bave no doubt, but it is not excluded by the Education Act. I know of oue schoo), in particular, in which the children read the Bible two days in the week ; aud 1 doubt not that there are other schools iu which the scriptures are read. It resis entirely I think with the Local Committee and the schoolmaster whether or not the bible shall be read, as provided for by the 37th clause of the Education Act. Yours, &c, S T February 4th, 1867.
