The Westport Times of the 12th instant informs us that a preliminary meeting of the members of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Odd Fellows has been held for the purpose of making arrangements for opening a lodge in Westport. The West Coast Times expects soon to hear of very favorable doings on Jones' Creek Flat, as two companies are now hard at work getting steam machinery in position, and one of them expects to commence pumping in a few days.

The Evening Post says : — Such of the good folk of Canterbury as have come from the Scottish side of the Tweed, have determined to hold a festival in honor of their great countryman, Robert Burns. Local steam companies have been established at. Tauranga, in Aucklad, and Invercargill, Southland.
