The Nelson Evening Mail. TUESDAY, JANUARY 22, 1867. NELSON BOARD OF WORKS.

Friday, January 18, 1867. Present: Mr. R. Burn, in the chair, Messrs. Carter, Rout, Bentley, and Wright. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary having reported on a culvert that had fallen iu, between Hampdv*n and Vanguard Streets, it was resolved that tenders be called for a new culvert. In reference to the bridge Mr. Osman applied for in Franklyn Street, it was resolved it be constructed at once. Mr. Johnson, of Collingwood Street, applied to have the drain repaired that had fallen in, in front of his premises. Resolved that the Public Works Committee examine it, and report to next meeting. Mr. Bentley reported that the Hon. E. Stafford had promised £50 towards the cutting in Washington Valley. It was resolved that the Secretary write to that gentleman and request the fulfilment of his promise. On the motion of Mr. Rout, it was resolved that the work required to be done in Brook Street, be done without delay. On the motion of Mr Beutley, seconded by Mr Carter, it was resolved that Mr H. Adams be appointed Solicitor to the Board. Mr. Bettany having offered to construct a brick culvert opposite his property in Washington Valley, he finding the materials and the Board the labor, it was resolved that his offer be accepted. Messrs. H. Adams and J. Percy having requested the Board to gravel Van Dieman aDd Brougham Streets, the Board resolved that the work should be done. An application from Messrs. Healy and Leslie to put up a permanent verandah in Bridge Street, was granted. The following accounts were passed : — Labor, £23 14s : Bank of New Zealand for stamps, £1 : Sherrard, 195.; Nelson Evening Mail, £3 7s. 6d. The Board adjourned till Thursday, the 31st instant.
