The arrival of Mr. Hitchens, who ranks as the second billiard player in great Britain, is noticed by the Melbourne Argus. He beat Dufton in the last match played by them, and in the two last contests with champion Roberts(who gave him 350 each time), he lost once, winning the other by 23 points. Roberts has a very high opinion of the qualifications of HitchinSj' who when at home offered to play any 'man for a wager of £500 aside, barring of course the champion. In the recent Australian In ter- col on ial rifle match, at Melbourne, Mr. M'Clure, one of the competitors, made seven bulls eyes out of ten shots at 900 yards with a Whitworth rifle, and Mr J. W. Pa weet, at YOO yards,, made nine consecutive bulls eyes. At 800 yards, Mr. J. Sharp, of Sydney, in his ten shots, made centres of the whole number.
