The Nelson Evening Mail. FRIDAY, JANUARY 11, 1567. NELSON BOARD OF WORKS.

January 4, 1867. Present: Mr. R. Burn, in the chair, Messrs. Bentley, Burns, Rout, and Aitken. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The gravelling of Waimea-road was deferred for another month. The consideration of the secretary's report on the bridge across Franklynstreet was postponed. Permission was granted to Mr' M' Vicar, to erect a verandah, iu front of Mr. Warren's premises in Bridge-street. A letter was read from Mr. Johnston, Collingwood-street, relative to a drain that had fallen in near his premises. It was resolved that the Board should do the work, if Mr. Johnston would furnish the bricks. Permission was given to Mr. H. P. Phillips, to erect a verandah, in front of his premises, corner of Collingwood and Bridge-streets. Mr. Solomon, Trafalgar-street, requested to be allowed to erect a signboard, on the top of the present blind post. The Board refused to grant permission. Mr. Mam, Bridge-street, requested permission to fix two horizontal bars in front of his shop. Permission not granted ; the Board refusing to allow any more of such erections unless they are carried the full width of the footpath, so that the droppings of the channel come into their proper place. Mr. Watts was instructed to request Mr. Fisher to remove a foot board from before his premises, as it was an obstruction of great inconvenience to the public. The secretary was requested to prepare a rough draft of bye-laws for cab stands. The chairman informed the Board that several inhabitants of Bridge and Colling-wood-streets had applied to him for a proper form which they could sign, as an application for a sewer. The secretary was requested to supply a form to those desiring it,' as well as to the inhabitants of Waimea-road. The following accounts were passed : — Labor, £23 10s. ; Bentley and Co., drain pipes, £14 ; H. Adams, £1 10s. ; C. Balme, 165, ; A. Aitken, 16s. Bd. ; M 'Vicar, £23 ls. 4d. ; J. Hounsell, £4 6s. 7d. ; Peat and Thornton, 17s. 6d. The Board adjourned till the 18th inst.
