LAYING of the FOUNDATION STONE of STMICHAEL'S CHURCH, WAIMEA-WEST. Sat arc! ay last, the 24-th November, will long be remembered by all connected with Waimea-West, The foundation -stone of a new church was laid by Mrs. Blundell, of Staplegrove, in the presence of a larce assemblage, among whom were the Hon. Colonel Richmond, C B. ; Sir David Mnnro, Knt., Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Lady Monro ; the Hon. Arthur Seymour, M.L.C., and Mrs. Seymour ; the Hon. Major Morse, M.L.C., and Mrs. Morse ; Mr. and Mrs. 'Brunner, Captain and Mrs. Colt, Mr. E. Baigent. M.P.C., and nearly all the members of the Church of England resident in the district. The service was conducted by the Eight Rev. the Lord Bishop of New Zealand, assisted by the clergy of the diocese. The litany having been rSad in the church (which is the oldest place of Worship in the Middle Island), by the Eev. Arthur Towgood, the hymn, "Thou whose Almighty Word," was sung, whilst a collection in aid of- the building fund was being made. A procession was then formed at the church-door, as follows : — W.
