EEMGLiSH NEWS. BY SPECIAL TELEGRAM. The July mail arrived at the Bluff last evening, from Melbourne, per steamer Albion, Avith telegrams to August 16. The principal news relative to the Continental war is that preliminaries of peace have been ratified hetAveen Prussia and Austria. Austria recognises Prussian arrangements for the future of Germany. Italy requires the unconditional cession of Venetia, and is contracting a neAA' loan of 350,000,000 francs. Prussia is still making preparations, all soldiers on furlough being called in. It is stated tliat Prussia has annexed the Avhole of Hanover, but the integrity of Saxony is to be maintained, > The Great Eastern arrived on the 10th August, having completed the laying of the Atlantic cable successfully. Cholera is raging in London; upwards of 1,500 deaths had occurred in one Aveek. The Peform League A^ere refused permission by the Governmenf-fe assemble in Hyde Park. There had occurred riots there, and Government had promised military assistance to the police if necessary. Parliament had declared the punishments and executions inflicted in Jamaica, after the rebellion had been suppressed, Avere unnecessary.. ii'ank rate of discount continued; a deputation to the Chancellor of Exchequer. Birmingham Banking Company's liabilities .-£2*000,000. Consolidated Bank opened business.
