Mr, Warden Revell, of Greymouth, reports up to the 28th July iuclusive, as follows: — A rush set in about the 20th instant to the terraces south of the Saltwater Creek, on the east side of the lagoon. Since the date of my last report gold has been struck at a depth of 20 to 40 feet on the -terraces south of Saltwater Creek. The lead runs north aud south, and is taken up for a distance of 2 miles. The wash-dirt consists of a coarse sand intermixed with boulders, from fifteen inches to two feet in thickness, the prospects being from |to | dwt to the dish. There is a population of 600 to 700 on the ground. A small township has already sprung up at the Saltwater Creek. There are also several stores and shanties on the ground. I have set apart a piece of ground for a township, which I have directed the mining surveyor to lay off in streets. The boatmen are making a handsome profit' on the lagoon, taking passengers, and goods from the Saltwater Creek to the landing at the rush, a distance of. 1 mile and a half.; A good dray bridge across the lagoon at the rush would be a great benefit. Several applications have been already made for protecting the same. Estimated population, 4,500.
