Brazil and Kiver Plate. —The allied army under President Mitre was expected shortly to euter Paraguay. The Brazilians were daily sending recruits to the Kiver Plate, and the army in Corrientos numbered 40,000 men. In Paraguay an army was concentrated at the Passo da Patria, waiting the approach of tbe allies, and a battle was considered imminent. The Brazilian fleet was still at Cornentes, and a combined attack upon Parawas expected at the end ol January.
