The Jamaica Commissioners had returned to Londou. The evidence taken by the •Commissioners proves unnecessary cruelty by the aiuhoriries." There were serious apprehensions of a further outbreak in Jamaica.
A prospectus has been issued of the AngloAmerican Telegraph Company, with a capital of £60,000, in £10 shares, to lay a submarine line between Ireland and Newfoundland. The Governor of Trinidad, the Honorable J. H. Manners Sutton, has been appointed Governor of Victoria.
Captain Black, the P. and 0. Company's agent, is to negotiate the Australian Governments' fortnightly mail to England. The time of the departure of the mails from Sydney and Melbourne is altered. From Sydney the mail will be despached on the 24th of the month, and from Melbourne on the 28th. The s.s. Kaikoura has arrived at Hobson's Bay. On the voyage she lost two blades of her propeller. There is a panic on the London Stock Exchange. Consols down to 86. French Funds down also.
