MARLBOROUGH.
We understand that the Provincial Government are about to improve aud extend the wharf accommodation in Blenheim extensively. The present wharf at the end of High-street is to be substantially repaired, aud lengthened 33 feet, and the filling behind is to raise gently to the level of Messrs. Edwards & Co.'s store, and the approaches metalled. The new wharf will be on the Leeds Quay ou the opposite bank of the river, but nearer the Omaka bridge. It will be 43 feet long, and 17 feet broad, rising from the edge of the water, as in this place the bank is somewhat precipitous. A crane will also be placed upon it. On Wednesday evening a meeting was held at the Court House, of the members of the Marlborough Building Society, whe.a 500/ was offered for sale. Money, however, does not appear to be in demand in Blenheim,, since 200/ was taken at a bonus of five per cent, and 100/ at six per cent ; whilst, for the remaining 200/, no offer was made. The contracts for metalling and repairing the road between the Tua Marina and Strachan's are progressing rapidly. Should the present fine weather continue, we may hope to see these very desirable worts completed in. about six weeks. The Presbyterians of Blenheim are about to erect a church, a very good site having been procured on the point near the old ferry-cros-sing on the Omaka. Subscription lists lie at various places in town, and canvassing arraugemeuts are iu progress. — M. Express. May 5.
