Thursday, May 10, 2866. Present — Messrs. R. Burn, D. Burns, Rout, Carter, Watts, Bentley, Wright ; Mr., Bentley in , the Chair. The minutes of the last meeting were, read and confirmed. An application from Mr. E. Murrell to put down blind posts, in front of his shop, was granted, on condition of their being 7 feet- clear from underside of the plate. An offer from Michael Sullivan to do certain work in Brook-street Valley, was declined. A letter from Mr. Corbett, on the desirableness of erecting lamps at Corbett's corner and corner of the city, was discussed and postponed until next meeting. An application from Mr. Coe for payment of block plan of city was complied with, on condition of his completing the. plan, according to agreement. A letter was. read from Mr. D. Rough, suggesting some improvements of the drains and ditches in Brougham-street. It was resolved that the work be carried out. A memorial was read from the inhabitants of Nilestreet in favor of the erection of a bridge there. Resolved that tenders be called for immediately. A letter was read from Mr. F. Wakefield, requesting the Board to replace a defective culvert in Hamp-den-streefc. It was resolved that the , Surveyor prepare plans and specification for the work. A letter "was read from Mr. Bain, asking permission of the Board to place a wooden bench on the bank of the Maitai, on acre No. .151, for the use of the public. Application granted, subject to the Surveyor's approval. "A. letter was received from the Provincial Secretary, complaining of the existence of certain nuisances in the city, reported on by the Medical Men and others. It was resolved that a deputation consisting of Messrs. Bentley and Burn wait upon the Provincial Secretary, and report next meeting. In reference to certain work in Washington Valley, to which Mr. Watkins drew the attention of the Board, Messrs. Bentley and Carter undertook to see to it. ' The Surveyor was requested to advertise for tenders for work at Trafalgar-street north. ; Messrs, Morrison, Sclanders,and Co. having com- ,j plained to the Board of a nuisance, arising from Mr. ,' M'Conkey's engine, the Secretary was requested tor inform them that Mr. M'Conkey had agreed to raise;' the chimney 14 feet, .to abate the, nuisance. § , The. Surveyor was empowered to commence the drainage from the Gaol to the main sewer in Trafal-gar-street, i '• Mr. Watts having drawn the attention of thev, Board to several street obstructions, including a gate's belonging to Mr. C. Resident Magistrate's Coukt.— Yesterday afternoon the case of- Emma Adams v. Henry Adams, came on 'again, the wife suing for a maintenance. The defendant said. he had not turned his wife out of the house, the door was open and he was willing she should come back again. _This the complainant denied, saying he had locked, her out,, and told her never to come back again, in presence: of witnesses. Defendant said his wife had left with a man named Dufty, whom the police found cohabiting with her. The bench refused to entertain the case, as the woman had left of her own accord. Mr. Kingdon, -who appeared for the complainant, applied for her clothes, but the Magistrate said he could not grant the application. On Mr. Kingdon, saying that the Defendant was about to leave the place, it was decided, that the clothes should remain ia the custody of the police, for a few days. It was understood that if the defendant left the district, the clothes would be handed over to the woman. This morning DanieLMoran was fined for drunkenness and breaking a bucket in the lock-up.
