This vessel is intended for the new mail service between Panama and New Zealand. Her dimensions are — length, 265 feet ; beam, 34 feet ; depth, 26 feet; tonnage, 1,504 tons b.m. The engines are 350-horse power, and are the builders' double cylinder principle. — Home News. " On February 17, the screw steamer Matura, 1,767 tons measurement, was launched at the Millbank ironworks. This steamer is to be placed on the route to Australia, via Panama. . She is 2£5 feet long between the perpendiculars, has a breadth of beam of ••'s£ feet, and is 26 8-12 feet deep. She will be propalled hy triple screw engines, of 350 nominal horse power, and is intended to carry a large quantity of fuel and cargo at a high rate of speed. — Id. The Souchays cleared for Batavia, via Bowen and Somerset. On this occasion, unlike her former trip, she takes a considerable amount of cargo and a full complement of passengers. Among these is Captain Simpson, the newly appointed Government Resident at Somerset. A quantity of stores for that settlement is forwarded, and the steamer has on board specie to the amount of £1 1,505. Yesterday forenoon the Kate., left Harris' wharf with the mails and passengers for the Souchays. She also took down a number of birds and animals, which are forwarded by the Acclimatisation Society to Java. The Souchays had a pilot pn hoard, and steam up ready to weigh anchor so soon as the Kate cast off, but as the City of Brisbane was sighted coining across the Bay, it was decided to Avait for her to take any supplementary mails for New South Wales she might have on hoard. — Brisbane Courier, April 9. Yesterday no fewer than five ships arrived in Tort Jackson from San Francisco. — Id., April 12. The schooner Restless, 300 tons register, is laid on at Sydney for the Gulf of Carpentaria.
