TAKAKA.
Cricket. — Two clubs for the practise of this noble sport have been formed here. Scarcely had they been formed, however, when a challenge was received from the Collingwood club . Although the Takaka players had'but just commenced to practise, they accepted the challenge, and the match was fixed for the 2nd instant. The rain on the Ist, however, prevented the Collingwood players arriving; until late on the 2nd. The match was postponed until the following morning. At'lo a.m. on the morning of Tuesday, the 3rd, the stumps were 'pitched in Mr. Fellow's paddock, Waitapu, the Takaka eleven securing the first innings, in which they scored 29° The Collingwood players followed, and made but 27. In the second innings Takaka made 68, and Collingwood 42, Takaka thus -winning by 28 runs. The result suprised both sides. The return match is arranged to take place on Monday, 23rd April. After the match the two elevens, together with the umpires and scorers, adjourned to the Shamrock hotel, and sat down to an excellent spread provided by mine host Riley, to which full justice was dene. When the cloth was removed the usual loyal and complimentary toasts were drunk, songs were sang, and all gave themselves up to the spirit of enjoyment. In the evening a ball took place, at which were present, besides the two elevens and their friends, a large number of the belles of the neighbourhood. Dancing was kept up with spirit until the morning, when they all departed well pleased to their homes .—Communicated.
