Tins Day. [Before J. Poy.nter, Esq.., 11. M.] Civil Cases. Appoo Hockton v. James Hyucs. —Claim, 305., money lent. Judgment by default for piaiutiff. Edwards v. Barratt.—Claim, £4 19s, 2d. Defendant pleaded a set off, whicli he said he had not delivered. He received a summons on Saturday, and his witnesses were up the country.. The Magistrate said there had beeu time to file a set oil, which defendant, must now do. Judgment for plaintiff, but no execution to issue till defendant had iiied' liis set ofi', issued auother suminous, aud the case had been heard by the Court. T. 11. idills v. Hutchinson. —Claim, ,€3 6s. 5d.. goods sold and delivered. Judgment by default for plaintiff. Education Rate. —J. D. Jones was summoned by the Central Education Board for £2, the, amount due by him for this rate. Mr. Shallcrass proved that the amount was due. Judgment was given for the amount claimed, subject to any deduction that defendant might prove himself entitled to by the production of receipts. Band op Hope. —A Lecture on Bunyans' Pilgrims Progress, illustrated by the Magic Lauiern, will be giveu this Evening at tho Temperance Hall. Wheat. —The brig Nile left Adelaide' about, the 26th March, and arrived off the Boulder Bank this morniug. She brings a" cargo of wheat for Messrs. Rod and Hounseli? The Wellington Excursiokists.-—The
"Wellington, s., which arrived here yesterday, brought back the excursionists who left Nelson in the Taranaki, that vessel being engaged on other service. A New Article of Export. — Some time since, a sample of the limestone whicli is procured frora the Tata Islands, was taken to Newcastle hy one of the vessels engaged in the coai trade. The sample was submitted to a professional lime-buruer there, who thought highly of its apppearauce, and tried it in his kiln. By the next mail steamer from Sydney, its value, wili be known here, -and if it will pay to ship it to that Port as ballast. ' TnE Steamer Lyttelton. — Messrs. N. Edwards & Co.'s p.s. Lyttelton which has been engaged in the trade between Nelson and Blenheim, is uow laid up for the purpose of receiving the new boilers, which were imported for her in the British Merchant. The Kennedy s., will take her place in the Blenheim trade, until she is again ready for service.
