Elizabeth, for Kaikora: 2 tous flour, Stevenson; 20 pkgs, Palmer. The Airedale left the Manukau at 2 p.xi., on Sunday, the Bth inst.; arrived off Taranaki on Monday, at 8 a.m.; left for Nelson, the same-day, at 2 p.m., and came alongside the wharf at 8.30 this morning. Experienced strong S.W. winds, and heavy sea. The s.s. William Miskin arrived from the Grey yesterday about 3 p.m., aud attempted, although so long past high water, to cross the bar. She was closely followed by the Keera. When abreast the signal station she stuck fast and it was then proved an undeniable fact that the depth was not sufficicntto take her in. Her head was therefore slewed round, and fortunately she succeeded in reaching the roads again. On seeing the William Miskin ground the signalman at once hoisted the danger flag as a warning to the Keera to proceed no further, when she at once took the hint and ran back to anchorage. We feel much inclined to pass severe comments upon the rashness and folly displayed in attempting to bring in such a vessel as the William Miskin at a little better than half tide, but shall this time content ourselves with merety entreating masters of vessels, which draw from 7 feet to 8 feet water, not to attempt the entrance before three quarters flood or after one ■quarter ebb. — W m C. Times, April 5.
