NEW PLYMOUTH ELECTION.
A meeting of "the , electors of the district of the Town of New- Plymouth was held yesterday at noon for the purpose of choosing a properly qualified person to represent them in the House of Representatives. As it was known there would be no opposition the attendance was not numerous. . . E. S. Willcocks, Esq., Returning Officer, having read the writ, called upon the electors to Dominate their candidates..' C. Brown, Esq., then proposed Major J. L. C. Richardson as a fit and proper person to represent, them. He quite agreed with the principle that it was desirable to find representatives in the place, but he did not look upon this as an inflexible rule. In ike present case even if they could get as able a I man as Major Richardson, he thought it desirable to have a raeru'ber who could represent their case without being subject to the charge of partiality. He only wished for justice to Taranaki, no more and no. less. From Major Richardson's known integrity and abili r y he haJ no doubt he would represent them well. J. C. Sharlaud, Esq., briefly seconded the nomination. No other candidate being proposed, Major Richardson was declared duly elected. The usuxi vote of thanks to the Returning Officer terminated the proceedings.— Taraaaki News, March 17.
