The Nelson Evening Mail. FRIDAY, MARCH 16, 1866.

We learn with much pleasure that it is the intention of his Honor the Superintendent to place upon the Estimates for the ensuing financial year, a sum of money (£2,500), for the erection of a now hospital iu this city ; we trust, the Council will vote the amount. In the midst of the prosperity which has fallen upon the province, it is right that the care of those, disabled by sickness or accident, should be thought of by the Government. Yet it is not to the Government alone that an institution of tliis nature should look for snpport. The principle that voluntary coutrij butions should be evoked iu the support of all charities, is universally recognised. Iu other cities, it is usual for the ladies annually to get up a bazaar, in aid of all such purposes. We are confident that the ladies of Nelson are as kind hearted as their sisters in the Australian communities, ancl there they labor very frequently on behalf of all charitable institutions. If the ladies here would take these matters iu hand we are confident that they could render great assistance iu this manner. Another way in which the funds of charitable institutions are frequently supplemented is hy amateur concerts and other performances ,• the Nelson Glee Club enjoys high celebrity, an excellent concert was lately given by them in the Proviucial Hall, in aid of the fund to relieve the distresses caused by the lake flood, and doubtless tliey would also be willing to assist the funds of the hospital iu the same kiud maimer. Professional performers of varions kinds frequently visit this city, aud are generally weil patronized ; thej' would doubtless occasionally give a benefit in aid of our institutions, if asked to do so. Therefore, besides subscription lists and publie meetings, there are plenty of means to raise funds for tho support of a hospital in this city, if those entrusted with its management would ouly avail themselves of them ; as well as the assistance so generously proffered by fhe Bishop of Nelson.
