"UNDER THE RED ROBE" All the thrills of those adventurous days when men dared all for love live again in "Under the Red Robe," an exciting, swash-buckling romance starring Conrad Veidt and Annabella, which screens at the Rialto Theatre on Saturday and Monday. Combining the intrigue of "Richelieu" the romance of "The Three Musketeers," the picture tells a tale of scarlet intrigue that threatens a throne with Conrad! Veidt, acclaimed as one of the greatest actors Europe ever produced, as the dashing, audacious adventurer, Gil de Berault, whose sAvord strikes terror into the hearts of men, and whose smile brings love to the hearts of women. As the radiant and charming Lady Marguerite, rapturously in love and unaware that her love can destroy a throne,, Annabella more than fulfills the promise of her earlier screen appearance. FRIDAY—"KID GALAHAD" "Kid Galahad," a story of the prize ring and the characters who are in it and about of them squareshooters and many of them doublecrossersi—was a tremendous success a few months ago as a novel. Now as a movie, it shows at the Rialto Theatre on Friday. Seldom indeed is a trio of stars such as EdWard G. Robinson, Bette Davis and Humphrey Bogart casj in the same film. Wayne Morris, who appears destined to join the ranks of top stars on the strength of this one picture, is in the name role, and the new leading lady who holds his romantic interest is an upcoming girl, too —Jane Bryan. WEDNESDAY—"I MET HIM IN PARIS" Gay, sparkling Paris and thrillpacked St. Moritz, capital of Switzerland's winter sports region, form the background for Claudette Colbert's latest comedy-romance, Paramount's "I Met Him in Paris," in which the brunette star is teamed with Melvyii Douglas and Robert Young. "I Met Him in Paris," which is showing at the Rialto next Wednesday and Thursday, is a fast-moving story of the American girl who discovers that she's in love with two handsome, charming men at the same time, without being able to choose between them, until she is finally forced to a showdown. WHITEBAIT Yesterday, being a good day and the tides suitable, many whitebait enthusiasts were fishing from the banks of the rivers. There must have been some good catches further towards the town, but up Mafeking way they were small, because of the fact that the few which did manage to get that far were only escapees from the nets further down.
