St. Bartholomew's Patronal Festival At Kaiapoi

The annual patronal festival of St. Bartholomew's Church was held on Wednesday evening last (St. Bartholomew's Day). High tea was served in the schoolroom at .5.30, at which short addresses were given by the Mayor (the Rev. W. H. A. Viekery) and the Rev. T. M. CurnoAv. Afterwards evensong was sung in the church, the preacher being the Rev. Canon J. F. Coursey, vicar of Cashmere Hills, who also read) the lessons. His address stressed the need for all members of the church, realising their responsibility to the church as the body of Christ. The remainder of the service was conducted by the Vicar (the Rev. T. M. Curnow). Social Evening After the service a social gathering was held in the schoolroom, music being supplied by Mr and Mrs A. W. Cosgrove. The entertainment arrangements were in the handts of a large committee of ladies, with Mesdames H. Arps, J. A. Mealings as convenors. A large number of people attended both the service and social functions. '■■■ .
