Respect for Dead Member
HARBOUR BOARD MEETING ADJOURNED Before commencing a meeting of the Waimakariri Harbour Board on Monday, members stood in silence as a mark of respect for the late chairman, Dr Maxwell Ramsay. The chair was taken by the vicechairman (Mr J. A. Mealings). The chairman moved that the services of the late Dr Ramsay be placed on record. He stated that the Board had lost the services of one of its greatest workers. Mr R. F. Joyce, who seconded the motion, spoke in a similar strain. Other members of the Board also eulogised the services of the late chairman. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr J. C. Simpson, it was decided to adjourn the meeting out of respect for Dr Ramsay’s meihory. Members carried the motion by again standing in silence. Before commencing the business at the Kaiapoi Borough Council meeting on Tuesday the Mayor (the Rev. W. H. A. Vickery) moved that a vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late ex-Councillor, Dr Maxwell Ramsay, be passed. In moving this the Mayor stated that the services of Dr Ramsay had been of incalculable value to the residents of Kaiapoi, and that his loss would be keenly felt.
