A BOLD PHEASANT

Pheasants are usually regarded as shy birds, but a hen pheasant seen in Kaiapoi has proved to be an exception. Crossing the Main North Road by the railway crossing, the bird calmly wandered about as if it had been used to traffic all its life. After strutting about the footpath it disappeared by a nearby shop.
