DECISION RESTS WITH BOROUGH

Amalgamation of Kaikainui Settlement COUNCIL RECEIVES REPORT ON CONFERENCE Discussion at this week’s meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council made it clear that the amalgamation plan for the Kaikainui Settlement noAV rests in the Borough’s hands. Eyre County Council have signified that they have no objections to the scheme. A report from the committee Avhich dealt with the proposed amalgamation stated that Eyre County Council had no objection to the amalgamation provided that the Borough assumed responsibility for both sides of the North Road. The Mayor stated that the matter noAV rested Avith the Borough, and that the residents concerned should have the opportunity of voting on the pro- : posal. Cr H. Rinaldi said that if a vote , were taken the expense would rest 1 Avith the Council. He asked if there was an Act in operation by Avhich the | Borough could force the Kaikainui set-

tlement to be amalgamated. Cr C. Morgan Williams said that the Act had not yet been passed. Cr Rinaldi then moved that the matter be left in abeyance until the Act had been dealt Avith by Parliament. The motion Avas carried.
