HOSPITAL BOARD.
DISTRICT VACANCY. A special meeting of representatives of the public bodies comprising the North Canterbury Hospital Board district last Monday to fill the vacancy caused on the Board by the death of Mr. F. Horrell failed to arrive at a unanimous decision about a new representative. The matter was therefore referred to the Governnor-General for settlement. Mr. W. A. Stalker (Rangiora County Council) was in the chair, the other Councillors present being Messrs. W. Kelcher (Kowai), H. E. Evans (Eyre) T. Pulley (Ashley), A. Meye’.’ (Oxford), M. Williams (Kaiapoi Borough) and W. A. Rowse (Rangiora Borough). The chairman said that the Board had suffered a. severe blow in the death of Mr. Horrell, who had been one of the hardest workers and keenest members the Board had ever had, and he would he extremely hard to replace. He moved that Mr. H. A. Bennett be appointed to the vacant position. This was seconded by Mr. Pulley. Mr. Morgan Williams proposed that Mr. H. C. Revell, who had contested
the seat with Mr. Horrell at the last election, should by virtue of his former vote be elected to the position; and as the Counties of Eyre, Ashley, Kowai, and Oxford, and the Borough of Rangiora, were in favour of the appointment of Mr. Bennett, and the appointment of Mr. Revell was favoured by the Kaiapoi Borough alone, it was decided on the advice of the Minister of Health that the selection oil a representative be referred to the Goyernor-General.
