Last-Wicket Stand l

WELLINGTON Wed. (PA..).—There was a tense atmosphere at the Hutt Recreation Ground this morning as G. Simpson and A. Lissette battled to save the follow on for Waikato in the Hawke Cup match against Hutt Valley. They failed by 16 runs after a fine last wicket partnership of 64 which terminated when brilliant fielding by Brennan resulted in Lissette being run out. Hutt Valley, however, decided to bat again. Simpson added 40 to his overnight total in as many minutes, including six fours. Scores: Hutt Valley, first innings 366; Waikato, first innings 201 (Simpson 70 n. 0., Lissette, 11; Crawford took 3 for 50, Futter 2 for 26, Muir 2 for 57).
