No Air Base On Mainland

HONGKONG, Fn. (11.30 a.m.)—Chinese Nationalists have lost their last important mainland air base with Communist occupation of Kwangnan. about 30 miles north-east of Chengtu. Pro-Communist reports say Kwangnan fell following the defection of ‘nearly seven divisions” under General Hut Sung Nan.

The reports add that the troops changed sides after a “three days’ psychological offensive" during which forward Communist units addressed the Nationalists through loudspeakers, pointing out the hopelessness of their position. It is reported that Nationalists nave assembled a fairly large fleet in Hainan Strait as part of their preparations to stem an expected Communist attack on the island from Liuchow Peninsula.
