To Attend Fire
MADIUM (Java).—Two Indonesian fire brigades were invited three days ahead of the event to attend a fire recently. . Two sections of the Madiun brigade received letters from a guerilla band operating in the neighbourhood to attend with safe conduct what was to be an attack and burning down of a factory on the outskirts of the town. The firemen informed the local military commander, who sent troops instead of firefighters on the appointed hour. That night a fire broke out in the barracks and a fire engine en route to the blaze was held up by bandits, who stole its tyres.—Reuters.
