1,000,000-Dollar Christmas Tree Fire
NEW YORK, Mon. (11 a.m.)—A fire which began h. a Christmas tree last night was estimated today to have caused nearly $1,000,000 damage to the business section of the town of Hyndman (Pennsylvania). The body of a v. jman in whose home the fire began tvas found today. Firemen credited a girl telephonist with saving 'he entire town of 1600 persons from destruction. They said she stayed it her post sending out calls for help to neighbouring fire brigades, although flames were licking at the telephone building. The fire burnt out one block of buildings and damaged buildings in three other blocks. The post office, bank, 12 stores and about 23 homes were gutted and others were damaged. Ten persons were treated for burns but only one death is reported.
