Games' Rowers Own Village
AUCKLAND, Tue. (Sp.).-A village for oarsmen competing in the Empire Games rowing events at Lake Karapiro has been completed near the lakeside. Able to accommodate about 80 competitors and visitors, the village is completely self-contained, with a post office, medical quarters, kitchen, recreation room and other facilities. The huts, which will be for one or two occupants, are already fitted with electric lighting. Near the camp entrance is a post office, in which teleprinters will be installed for the convenience of overseas and Dominion newspaper correspondents. AUCKLANDERS FIRST The first oarsmen to enter the camp will be the West End (Auckland) eight, due on January 14. The remaining New Zealand representatives will be at the village by January 22, and the Australian crews will arrive that day by air from Sydney. Travelling by a chartered aircraft, the English oarsmen will reach Auckland on January 23. After February 6, the day of the rowing events, the oarsmen will join the other athletes at the Empire Village at Ardmore.
